Frequently asked questions

Understand your data and the limits of cleaning.

What are EXIF, IPTC, XMP and C2PA?

EXIF can contain GPS and camera details. IPTC/XMP can include authorship and editing history. C2PA records signed provenance. This tool scans indicators; it does not verify signatures or prove AI generation.

Are my files uploaded or stored?

No. File processing happens in your browser, with no upload endpoint or file database. Privacy choices are stored locally for up to 180 days. Website access logs may still exist; they do not contain the selected files.

Does cleaning remove GPS and AI watermarks?

Canvas output does not retain the original EXIF, IPTC, XMP or C2PA blocks. String detection can miss or misidentify indicators. Visible watermarks and watermarks embedded in pixels are not removed.

Will image quality change?

Dimensions stay the same. JPEG/WebP are re-encoded at your chosen quality and can lose detail. Colors may change and animated images become still images. Keep your originals.

What does PDF cleaning remove?

Info dictionaries and supported Metadata streams are removed. Page text, annotations, forms, attachments and other hidden information may remain. Encrypted or digitally signed PDFs are not supported.

Is it free and can it work offline?

Yes. Libraries are bundled locally. After the page loads, processing needs no internet; use the localhost copy to reopen offline. Local processing alone is not GDPR or HIPAA certification.
